Adjusting Your Glasses at Home

Jul 6th 2018

Eyeglasses that fit poorly are frustrating things. They may affect your vision, or give you headaches and other pains. You can adjust your own eyeglasses at home to make them fit better. Of course, how well you can do this depends upon the type of frame. Different materials require different methods of adjustment. Here are some ideas for adjusting your glasses at home safely.

Adjusting Nose Pads

Sometimes, all you need to make your eyeglasses feel better when you wear them is a nose pad adjustment. Go with your feelings; if you feel like your glasses sit too high, then pressing your nose pads gently outward will help lower the frame on your nose. If they sit too low, you can do the opposite. It’s important to push very gently and not too far so as not to damage the pads. If you do this too often, you also risk damage of the metal holding them in place. So, if your glasses are still uncomfortable after trying this, you may need to try something else.

Sliding Glasses

Glasses sliding down your face is one of the most common complaints of wearing glasses, particularly in summer when the heat causes excess sweat. You can try to adjust your glasses’ earpieces to help them stay on better. Run them under hot water to soften them, and then very gently and carefully bend them to suit your ears. You can do the same if they’re too tight. Bend them just a little at a time; overdoing it means bending them again, and the more you do it, the more risk there is of it being more difficult to fix.

Of course, if you’re not comfortable trying these fixes on your own, or they’re not working, you can ask for help. Or, you may need to try a new pair. Find new, comfortable pairs of glasses at Speert.com.
